Third Eye Chakra

Sharpen Your Inner Vision

Working with this chakra develops your intuition, clairvoyance, and imagination. You learn to see with your inner eye, to visualise what it is you wish to create, and to remember your dreams and be guided by them. Your creative vision is illuminated, and you are open to receiving inspiration from above. You see and you know.

Third Eye Chakra at-a-glance

Sanskrit name: Ajna (command wheel)
Physical location: above and between the eyebrows.
Element: light
Colour: indigo
Yantra: a crescent moon, above a downward-pointing triangle, containing the OM symbol, all enclosed within a two-petalled circle.
Seed Mantra: Am or Om
Affirmations: Love flows, light heals. Love lights my way.
Main creative concerns: learning to see with the inner eye and visualising what you wish to create. Developing imagination, accessing the dreamworld of the subconscious, and opening yourself to receive inspiration. Bringing your creations out into the light. Making creative leaps of faith, guided by your intuition.
Balanced: intuitive, clearsighted, a beacon of light to others, imaginative, visionary, spiritual but grounded, perceptive, remembers dreams, sees the bigger picture and takes care of the details, clear judgement, sees beyond superficial appearances, appreciates beauty.
Excessive: cerebral, floaty, spiritual zealot, evangelical, nervy, poor psychic boundaries, superstitious, abstract thinker, ungrounded, flowery, impractical.
Deficient: superficial, unperceptive, unimaginative, unspiritual, ultra-practical, cynical, materialistic, lack of foresight, poor intuition.
Life Issues: balancing the spiritual and material aspects of life, learning to trust your own judgement, developing emotional intelligence. If there is a history of abuse ensuring that the third eye is not overdeveloped at the expense of the chakras below. Ensuring that you have developed the stability and support of the lower chakras in order to be able to work on this chakra safely.
Healing practices: relaxation, meditation, yoga nidra, eye exercises, finding the support of a well-grounded spiritual community, keeping a dream diary, prayer, yoga, guided visualisations, reading fiction (which encourages visualising fictional scenes in your head), moonlit walks, star gazing, intuitive astrology, astronomy, all imaginative creative pursuits.
