“Once I started to read this book, I couldn’t put it down. It captivated me with its wisdom, insights, meditations, and practices. Each morning as I prepared for my day, I began with a yoga practice specific to one of the chakras followed by a suggested chakra meditation. I found myself becoming more present to the moment and full of renewed life-energy as I did this. When I then entered my studio, I was able to simply let go and dance with my imagination. Paintings that were not finished were suddenly being completed. I never truly understood how to work with the chakras before. Shipway makes it so easy to understand and engage in. A must read for anyone who wants to really blossom into their full creative potential.”

Shipway argues compellingly for the power of the Chakras to support and develop our creative energies and gives clear practical guidelines on how to use them. I’ll be keeping this book on my desk so I can reach for it when I’m in need of a boost. Anyone interested in the relationship between the body and creative writing will find much here to take their practice deeper.

Chakras for Creativity is certainly not ‘just another book about chakras’.  You can tell how Jilly lives her subject and speaks so honestly about how the gift of yoga and all its facets can impact our everyday lives.  Drawing upon her personal insights, it is clear that allowing the poetic symbolism of chakras to work their magic, not just on the yoga mat or in meditation, but in everyday dealings with our inner and outer worlds, can have a profound effect on our wellbeing and how we show up in the world… I’ve learned from this book to harness creatively the inspiration gleaned from my yoga practice as well as walking in nature, being in touch with all my senses, intuitively choosing an appropriate chakra to work with.  This book contains an extensive explanation of the chakra system from ancient texts, but its impact comes from the imaginative way that everyone can unlock their true creative potential.

This charming, friendly book will help anyone use the chakra model to better know themselves. It’s not only a sweet guide to creativity, it’s also a beautiful introduction to yoga. This is one to read straight through at first encounter, then revisit time and time again. I love this book!

I’ve been dipping my toes into the creative pool of Meditations and Visualisations in Jilly Shipway’s recent book Chakras for Creativity and enjoying the immense power of inner sensing and imagination that she explores.
Jilly’s rich book is written with a down to earth approach and is a helpful guide and resource for those with a new or developing interest in modern yoga and its contemporary chakra system.
Mapping through the body from earth to sky, Jilly presents a range of techniques, tools and activities that are simple and yet very effective in accessing one’s own unique creative potential, empowerment, and expression.
To honour the spirit of creativity, you’ll then need to put this book down and engage with the exercises offered, as ultimately as Jilly says, creativity is a way of living and being.

Jean Hall, yoga teacher and author of “Breathe: simple breathing techniques for a calmer, happier life.”
In her inspiring and empowering new book, Jilly advocates an imaginative and playful approach to exploring the Chakras. This book is a treasure trove of yoga-inspired tools to help us rediscover our latent creativity.  Bespoke asana sequences, walking and writing meditations, sound, mantras, colours and mandalas all combine in an accessible, practical way, helping us to tap into the transformational power of these seven wheels of energy.  In sharing her own honest and at times painful story, Jilly offers the universal possibility of healing.  This we can all achieve by accessing our own creative vision, exploring, questioning, reflecting and, above all, listening to our inner wisdom.
Jilly encourages us to ‘look upon this book as a good friend’ and indeed I did feel as though I had spent precious time with a dear companion. When I had finished reading, I felt profoundly grateful for all it had taught me, excited by the possibilities it had suggested and a little sad to have to say goodbye. This is a rich, stimulating and comforting resource and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

We have come to know that when Jilly writes a book, there comes a calm, confident and friendly guiding hand, and heart. She takes us deeper into an area, an interest, a way of life. This latest offering on chakras and ways to entwine them into mindful and yoga based practices will be a delight and an ongoing source of reference to yoga students and teachers alike. Thank you!

Chakras for Creativity offers a very comprehensive look at integrating yoga practice with the wisdom of the chakras, in order to invite and develop more creativity in your life.  It's an accessible book with stand-alone chapters for each chakra, depending on what you want to work the most.  The step by step guide makes it particularly easy for beginners to follow. Chakras for Creativity is a welcome addition to the bookshelf on creativity especially for those who prefer a physical approach.  We all need to listen to and empower our body wisdom more, and this is the book to help.

As an artist, and one who practices yoga and mindfulness, this is the book I’ve been waiting for. I never realized how I could work with the chakras specifically to increase creativity. I now have a much deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the chakra system and will use this book as a trusted guide on my creative journey.
The introductory chapter gives an overview of the chakras with each of the following chapters offering more in-depth information and examples of how to work with them. I especially liked learning how to identify if the chakra is in balance or if it has excessive or deficient energy and what the main creative concerns are for each.
Taking a holistic approach, the book includes practices and exercise such as chakra meditations, chakra inspired yoga, walking and writing meditations and meditation questions all within a mindfulness framework. Initially it is best read from beginning to end, but then can be used as a reference guide to rebalance the chakras or when wanting to work on specific chakra issues.
By following the practices and exercises laid out, the extraordinary creative potential buried within each of us can be unlocked. This is now my go-to book for understanding the chakra system and for guiding me in developing practices to continue to ignite my creativity.

The publication of this wonderful book could not have been more timely. We are living through a period of extreme turbulence as demonstrated by the crisis of climate change. Within our own bodies we struggle to adjust to new sicknesses such as Covid 19 and its variants. There is a commotion in the elements of earth, water, fire, air, wind and space and things seem profoundly unsteady. This visionary work clearly synthesises the theory and practise of the chakra system and how it can be attuned to help us regain balance, creativity and joy.
The book is clearly written from a great deal of knowledge and insight by someone who "walks the talk". The contents although profound, are very accessible and will be of great benefit to teachers and practitioners of both yoga and mindfulness as well as to creative people who may be struggling to give birth to new ideas. The guidelines for practice are written from deep personal life experience and give full acknowledgement to safety and therefore, may be very helpful to people struggling through trauma.
A generous, wise and deeply helpful book.
